Recap of 2018 – from Waterford, Region 26

The Viking Region had a busy year 2018 – we picked 3 most noteworthy events that highlight IPA Waterford’s active approach to fulfilling the IPA motto of “Service Through Friendship”.

We hope that the year 2019 will be even more productive and that the local IPA structures grow in numbers and strength.

1. Visit from IPA US Section Region 9

On 25th April 2018, IPA Waterford welcomed IPA Region 9 San Francisco to Waterford City.

Sgt Coleman Hogan and Garda Oliver O’Flynn met the group at Waterford Crystal following their tour and brought them to the newly refurbished Waterford Courthouse.

There our guests were given a guided tour and informed of the history of the building.

They were presented with a memento of their visit prior to departure.

2. The Annual Jerry Lynch Bowling Tournament

On the 5th July 2018 the Annual Jerry Lynch Bowling Tournament took place at Activate in Waterford.

Teams from Waterford Crime Office, General Office, Community Police along with Kilkenny, Tipperary and Retired Members battled for the Memorial Shield in memory of Supt Jerry Lynch RIP of Tramore Garda Station.

The Community Police team from Waterford emerged victorious on the night.

IPA Ireland President Conor O’Higgins along with Mrs. Marian Lynch and local IPA chair Coleman Hogan presented the shield.

There were refreshments afterwards in the Uluru Outback bar.

3. Little Blue Heroes

On the 7th December 2018, Waterford IPA Committee member Garda Conor Courtney arranged a special day for the Little Blue Hero Gardai to raise funds for the Little Blue Heroes charity.

This event was sponsored by Waterford IPA, whose members assisted with organising the event.

Five little blue heroes visited Santa’s workshop at Cartamundi in Waterford and then paid a visit to the Helicopter Rescue 117 Base at Waterford Airport.

A special thanks to the Irish Wheelchair Association for their assistance.

Special “Thank You” framed certificates were presented to Cartamundi, the 117 Rescue Base and the Irish Wheelchair Association from Waterford IPA.

Following this, there was a party in the Garda Station canteen.

A great day was had by all.
