Update from Carrauntoohil by the members of IPA Hiking Club:
Very tough and testing conditions on Ireland’s highest mountain today..
Set off from Cronins Yard in the heavy rain up through Hags Glen where the wind started to pick up…
Passed over the stepping stones on a swelling rapid River Gaddagh and up through Lough Gouragh and Callee.
Further on we realised that the devil’s ladder was no longer doable and putting our safety first we made the group decision to turn back, the right decision π…
On our descent we were met by swirling tornado like winds sweeping between the two lakes that blew us to the ground, nearly impassable stepping stones where the volume of water had increased over the stones and truly tested our balance π³…
Only to be met back in Killarney by lovely sunny weather πππ
Carrauntoohil we will be back in April to summit you…
We shall not be defeated ππͺπͺ
Well done to everyone today, very tough conditions but spirits were kept high throughout!
