IPA 1st Annual Blood Drive Region 1

On the 12th of December 2018 Region 1 GHQ organised the 1st Annual Christmas Blood Drive.

The event was well supported with 20 people offering to donate blood.

After meeting up at the Garda Band Hall we travelled to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service at D`Olier House.

The IBTS needs to collect 3000 donations weekly to ensure a safe and sustainable blood supply to the country’s hospitals it serves 365 days a year.

Up to three people can benefit from a single pint of blood.

Information on Platelet donation was also made available to everybody.

Platelets are small cells present in the blood of all healthy people. They are essential to enable blood to clot properly.

They are used in the treatment of Leukemic and cancer patient, burns victims and newborn babies.

Platelets are a crucial lifesaving treatment for many patients fighting cancer.

There are currently just 2,200 platelet donors in Ireland and we urgently need more donors to join the platelet panel.

If you are interested in becoming a platelet donor, please call:

  • Dublin: National Blood centre, James Street, Dublin 8 – 01 4322833
  • Cork: Munster Regional Transfusion Centre, St Finnbarr’s Hospital, Douglas – 021 4807429

IPA Region 1 Tour of Trinity College & Irish Whiskey Museum

IPA Region 1 Trinity College & Whiskey Museum

Shortly before Christmas 2018, members of IPA Ireland Region 1 explored some of the most popular sites in Dublin city centre – The Irish Whiskey Museum and Trinity College.

The Irish Whiskey Museum is a popular place for whiskey connoisseurs, where one can sample some of the finest brands of Irish whiskey, learn about its history, buy souvenirs and simply sit back and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

Trinity College, the best known university in Ireland, dates back to 1592. Located in the historic heart of Dublin City, the campus houses 25 separate schools and departments, each focusing on different aspects of research and sciences.

The IPA tour was concluded with an obligatory visit to the nearby pubs.
